TTG Welcomes New Member Mentis Technologies

May 15, 2017

Mentis Technologies, a cyber security focused business, is moving to The Tech Garden. CEO Brian Abbe says that sixty percent of computer virus infection occurs while browsing, and 75% of all corporate computers have been infected, which is why he is building an application to prevent computer virus infection. Antivirus software attempts to mitigate and protect after a virus and the Mentis product intends to prevent viruses infecting computers. While still in the product development phase, Mentis anticipates targeting small to large businesses, initially in healthcare, banking, and DoD.

Since 2013, Brian Abbe has held the positions of Program Manager, Branch Chief, and Head of the Technology Transfer Office at Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) in Rome, NY.  His work afforded him involvement in many interesting projects, one of which resulted in his listing as a co-inventor on an AFRL owned patent. The recently awarded patent is for an apparatus and method employing risk reducing autonomous vehicles. He is also presently on a special one-year sabbatical to build a business using another AFRL technology.Prior to AFRL, Abbe served as the Vice President and General Manager of Ephesus Technologies, not a name unfamiliar to The Tech Garden supporters. Ephesus Technologies incubated at the Tech Garden from 2010 – 2012. The small nano-technology startup grew, and although Abbe moved on to AFRL, Ephesus moved down two blocks from The Tech Garden, re-branded as Ephesus Lighting, and was acquired by Eaton Corporation in 2015. They now engineer and manufacture a new generation of high performance LED lighting.

With an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University, his Ephesus startup experience, and innovations at AFRL, Abbe is ripe for his new venture, Mentis Technologies.

Abbe’s ready to build his company at The Tech Garden. His prior positive experience here, the opportunities for networking, access to startup education ease and resources as well as the Hotspot benefit are what brought him back. We look forward to the future success of Abbe and Mentis Technologies.
