WexEnergy, a TTG member and Clean Tech Center participant developing energy saving window retrofit solutions for residential, institutional, and commercial buildings, was awarded The New York Community Trust Impact Prize on April 24 at New York University Tandon School of Engineering’s Urban Future Prize Competition. The Urban Future Prize Competition showcases the world’s most revolutionary cleantech innovations. The event was held online by its Urban Future Lab – New York City’s longest-running cleantech incubator program which is funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

 

The award comes as landlords and property managers in New York City prepare to comply with Local Law 97, passed in 2019. Local Law 97 is aimed at reducing carbon emissions in a city where the building stock contributes 70% of its carbon emissions.  Beginning in 2024, the law will require most New York City buildings over 25,000 square feet to meet the carbon reduction targets. WexEnergy’s WindowSkin® product platform positions the company to partner with building managers and their energy experts who are seeking cost-effective energy saving and carbon footprint reduction solutions.

WindowSkin’s impact is compounded by its affordability, making it an ideal solution for economically uncertain times. WindowSkins provide up to 75% of the insulation improvement for less than 15% of the cost of window replacements. At this time, WindowSkins are being sold into the property management and educational building markets.
