Program Director, Pitch Deck Pro & Backyard Explorer

June 23, 2025

Ever wonder who keeps INSPYRE’s programs running smoothly while cheering on every founder along the way? Meet Kara Jones, our Director of Programs & Engagement. From helping startups tell their stories to getting nerdy about drones, Kara’s a true behind-the-scenes powerhouse. We asked her a few quick questions to get to know her better—here’s what she had to say!

1. How do you help clients in our programs?
🧠 Kara: My goal is to make sure every founder feels welcome and knows how to tap into the resources they need. I help with everything from mentor connections and funding navigation to pitch decks and PR strategy. With a background in marketing, I love helping founders tell their story—and if you’re in the UAS space, even better! That’s where a lot of my brain lives, and I’m always up for a good drone convo. 🚁

2. What excites you most about the Innovation Hub space?
🏢 Kara: It’s been amazing to see this space evolve—I’ve been part of it since 2017! The renovations and new tech are exciting, but what really gets me is the energy that comes from meeting even more diverse, driven founders. I can’t wait to see what ideas are built here. Also love that we will have an outdoor terrace.

3. What’s your favorite thing about living in Syracuse?
🌳 Kara: The pace of life! Everything’s just 15 minutes away, which makes work-life balance so much easier. Plus, there’s a lot to do with kids—hockey games, parks, nature trails—and we truly enjoy all four seasons. Even the snow.

4. Favorite downtown Syracuse spots?
🥪 Kara: I’m all about a good sandwich from Panini’s or Soups R Salads. For family time, the MOST Museum is always a win, and Salt City Market is my go-to for good food and vibes. Downtown is full of hidden gems if you’re willing to explore.

5. What do you like to do outside of work?
⛳ Kara: Hanging with my kids is my favorite thing. I also love running, biking—and finding new places to explore—recently checked out Beaver Lake! I’m super competitive, so anything with a challenge is fun. I even started a ladies’ golf league this year, and it’s been an absolute blast.

6. Want to connect with Kara?
🏃‍♀️ You’ll find her at most INSPYRE events, or reach out via Slack or email—she’s always happy to chat, especially if pitch decks or drone tech are involved!
