The 16-week remote program connects startups with government agencies to co-develop technology solutions for government challenges. Apply to one of the 80+ government challenges by November 7, 2018. 

Syracuse is home to some of the most innovative companies which have developed solutions and products that, quite literally, have changed the world. By tapping into this creative, solution-oriented spirit, the city of Syracuse hopes to develop technologies to address a variety of its civic challenges. This effort is a part of the city’s broad goal of developing a stronger, more connected community.Through a new effort, the city will connect to innovators as part of its participation in the national program, Startup in Residence (STIR). Startups can review the more than 80 challenges on StartupinResidence.org in areas including data analytics, augmented reality, geo-services, mobility, and resiliency, and then apply to be a part of a 16 week, mostly remote program. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to work with the city of Syracuse or one of 30 local governments that are part of the STIR network. The application period runs until November 7, with the program kicking off at the end of January.

Permit Transparency
Within the city of Syracuse multiple departments are tasked with reviewing and approving permit applications.  It needs a permit management system that centralizes, tracks, and archives all of the reviewers’ and applicant’s permit application documents, comments, updates and changes.

Security Deposit Loans
The city of Syracuse seeks a crowdfunding platform to connect low-income renters to people willing to provide short-term no-interest loans for security deposits.

Trauma Response
The city of Syracuse seeks a citizen engagement tool so that its Trauma Response Team (TRT) can engage residents after traumatic events, such as violent crimes. The TRT would populate an update and push it to the public. End users would receive these notifications about specific events and where the community can go for counseling, help and support.

Snow Covered Sidewalks
Sidewalks not cleared of snow are potential safety hazards. The city does not have the manpower to clear all of its sidewalks, and is seeking autonomous sidewalk snow clearing solutions.

Trash and Debris Data Collection and Optimization
The city of Syracuse needs a way to measure the amount of trash, debris, and yard waste picked up at each property. It seeks a way to identify each property that a sanitation truck serves and quantify the amount of waste that is picked up. The system would also store and use this data to optimize trash and debris operations.
