TruWeather Solutions Hires SUNY Oswego Meteorology Students and Partners with Past GENIUS NY Teams

July 7, 2020

TruWeather Solutions recently hired two meteorologists who graduated from SUNY Oswego this past spring. The 2018 GENIUS NY finalist now has 11 working out of The Tech Garden. TruWeather Solutions is a weather risk management and analytics company that has a proven framework for reducing weather’s impact on businesses to preserve people, property and profits.
“It is truly rewarding to live up to the promises we made in 2018 to Central New York in terms of hiring meteorologists from regional colleges and universities, keeping them in their home state and having them contribute to the growth of NY’s Unmanned Aerial Systems industry,” said Don Berchoff, CEO of TruWeather Solutions.

The two new hires graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Meteorology from SUNY Oswego and originally started as interns at TruWeather. The two now focus on operational forecasting, processing weather data sets, and translating that into mission-specific weather intelligence for airspace managers and drone operators.

TruWeather Solutions was part of the 2018 GENIUS NY Accelerator and has since become a leader in the unmanned systems weather space. Since January, Berchoff has spoken at more than 20 conferences and seminars around weather and drone integration into the national airspace.

The company has also partnered with many other GENIUS NY finalists including ResilienX (’19) and Akrobotix (‘17).  TruWeather’s weather data platform is leveraging Akrobotix’s high resolution terrain reference mapping service to help drone pilots plan and fly missions in varying terrain to remain safely above ground level when flying beyond visual line of site.  ResilienX and TruWeather Solutions teamed up this year to work on monitoring the reliability of sensors and weather data to safely operate drones at the NY UAS Test Site. Together with NUAIR and Oneida County, the companies will integrate and test their technology to address specific weather safety and risk mitigation concerns for operating UAS in the national airspace.
