WeatherOptics Takes New Spin on Weather Industry and Seeks Central New York Customers

December 10, 2018

WeatherOptics, a TTG member, has developed an unique, interactive, and cost effective portal that provides highly accurate weather predictions utilizing data driven analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. WeatherOptics is looking at weather through a lens that targets niche markets like emergency management agencies, school districts, and other companies to provide more accurate and min by min weather data.
“Our team has worked  incredibly hard over the last six months to create an online customizable weather portal that allows individuals and companies from a number of different industries to see weather information in a format that is targeted to them,” said Scott Pecoriello, CEO of WeatherOptics. “Our goal is to not only shed light on what kind of weather can be expected, but exactly how it will impact a specific business, service or industry.”The company’s portal will provide highly accurate weather predictions, and will also show how various types of weather will directly impact susceptible industries. Furthermore, the portals will offer first-to-market actionable plans for clients to implement based on their industry. For example, it will let snow plows determine how much salt to use on an upcoming snow fall or inform school districts about exact temperatures, road conditions and snow accumulations so they can make more informed choices about school closings and delays.  .

“With an increase in data and ability for data manipulation, it’s now possible to make weather into something that’s highly useful for business and individuals more than ever before,” states Pecoriello. “The key is to be able to provide customized weather portals by industry that are more-hands off, but still have a touch of expert meteorology insight. This allows high accuracy and scalability to keep growing and expanding.”

What’s really fascinating about WeatherOptics is the uniqueness of their methods, the age of their team, and the passion they have for innovation and disruption.

Everyone involved in the company is between the ages of 19 and 30 years old and are students and recent graduates of Syracuse University who are part of the millennial generation that believe they can have a huge impact on different industries, even at such a young age. This gives them a unique advantage on an industry dominated by much older individuals and methods.

WeatherOptics is currently a Tech Garden member where it has access to mentors, business resources, startup events and funding to continue to grow its business. WeatherOptics plans to continue on their current trajectory, hiring at least another 3-5 individuals in the next 1-2 years. The company is currently valued at just over $8 million. They don’t plan on stopping to reshape the weather industry anytime soon.
