CenterState CEO is pleased to welcome Craig Witmer as its new vice president of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In the role, Witmer will lead strategies that support startups and small business; oversee programs, partnerships and initiatives that drive entrepreneurial growth; and strengthen connections across the community and Central New York innovation ecosystem.
Witmer said he was drawn to the opportunity because it brings together his broad experience in support of CenterState CEO’s mission while leading the team at INSPYRE Innovation Hub.
“The future of our economy is being designed, grown and built right here,” Witmer said. “The opportunity to help lead that conversation is impossible to pass up.”
When asked what excites him most about Central New York’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, Witmer pointed to both the people and the opportunities.
“In our region there is a community of hardworking builders and doers across industries and institutions who want to see their work succeed and their neighbors thrive,” he said. “We’re operating at the cutting edge of industries that range from, autonomous systems and memory, to cleantech and more.”
Looking ahead, Witmer said he’s eager to welcome more people from across the community into INSPYRE Innovation Hub.
“We’ll work together to empower people across the region to build their dreams, create something new or find what they need to support their growth,” he said.
Wiitmer also hopes those who work with him will know they have someone who listens.
“Understanding the challenges entrepreneurs and clients face starts with listening,” he said. “Whether that’s thinking through ideas or strategies, connecting with our experts or learning more about the community, I’ll work to support their goals however I can.”
Outside of work, Witmer enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants and shops, reading about international affairs, technology and economics, searching antique stores for hidden treasures and cheering on the Buffalo Bills.
