Client Spotlight: Michelle Cruse of The Cracked Bean Roastery

July 20, 2026

Since opening inside the historic Palace Theatre at 2384 James St. in Syracuse, The Cracked Bean Roastery has become a favorite destination for locally roasted coffee, fresh food and community connection. Now, founder Michelle Cruse is preparing for the company’s next chapter with the opening of a second café at 719 E. Genesee St. later this summer, while continuing to grow the company’s wholesale coffee program. Learn more at The Cracked Bean Roastery

What are you working on right now?
We’re expanding with our second café location at 719 E. Genesee St. in Syracuse, which is expected to open later this summer. We’re also growing our wholesale coffee program to serve more businesses throughout the region.

What’s a recent milestone or win for your company?
One of our biggest accomplishments has been building a team that can confidently lead our day-to-day operations. As we prepare for expansion, I’ve had to learn to step back, trust my team and let them take ownership. Their hard work has made this next chapter possible.

What’s next for you or your team?
Our immediate focus is opening the East Genesee Street café and getting it running smoothly. After that, we’ll begin exploring a third location. Syracuse is in the early stages of an exciting renaissance, and we’re excited to continue growing alongside our community.

How has INSPYRE supported your journey so far?
The INSPYRE team helped me recognize that I had become the single point of failure in my business. They challenged me to delegate responsibilities, trust my team and build a business that could grow beyond me. They also connected me with community financial resources and continue to mentor me while keeping me accountable to the five-year plan we’ve developed together.

What advice would you give to other founders?
Seek help sooner. Founders often try to do everything themselves, but learning to lean on others can make both your business and your life stronger.

As The Cracked Bean Roastery prepares to open its second café, Michelle remains focused on building a business that empowers her team and serves the Syracuse community. We look forward to watching the company’s next chapter unfold.
